This year will hit a new record for total Halloween sales – In fact, the National Retail Federation predicts that 2017 will reach a record high of $9.1 billion in Halloween spending. This number beats last year’s impressive record of $8.4 billion in Halloween sales!

On top of 2017 hitting a record in Halloween sales, Pinterest has noted that 220 million Halloween ideas are saved on users’ boards. What are the most popular costume ideas for 2017? Let’s find out.

Big Little Lies

The HBO series “Big Little Lies” is stirring up some costume ideas among girlfriends.  Pinterest notes that there was a 64 percent increase in pins from last year. This increase has a lot to do with people trying to wear something similar to “Big Little Lies” character, Audrey Hepburn.

Star Wars

Star Wars has always been a popular Halloween costume idea. So far, there have been over 180,000 pins of Star Wars costume ideas saved on Pinterest! This could very well have a lot to do with Carrie Fisher’s death last year, as well as the recent and upcoming Star Wars films.

Baywatch

This signature red one-piece has consistently been a top-pick for plenty of Halloweeners. For whatever reason, the idea of dressing up in Baywatch costumes seems even more appealing this year. Pinterest even noticed a 147 percent increase in pinned Baywatch Halloween costume ideas compared to last year.

Game of Thrones

This HBO series seems to consistently have a lot of influence on Halloween enthusiasts. There is a 91 percent rise from last year’s ideas of dressing up as Daenerys. Jon Snow is also attracting a lot of attention, as pins on Pinterest have increased by 280 percent from last year.

Stranger Things

The Netflix series “Stranger Things” is premiering its second season just a few days before Halloween. That means that there’s a good chance that Millie Bobby Brown’s character Eleven could be the hit again. “Stranger Things” cast costumes were very popular last year, but users are pinning even more ideas this year, with an increase of 40 percent more than in 2016!

Rick & Morty

According to Pinterest, many couples are planning on dressing up as Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty. Pinterest has noticed that there are more than 10K pins for costume inspiration from the grandfather-and-grandson cartoon duo.

Beauty and the Beast

The release of a live-action “Beauty and the Beast” has certainly influenced many to dress up like the characters from the film. The most popular of the characters are Gaston and a group of maids. Pinterest has noticed a 680 percent increase in saved pins from 2016.

Wonder Woman

Dressing up as Wonder Woman is nothing new, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great idea. Wonder Woman has been a top costume idea for solo fans for years, but this year, there have been more than 60K costume ideas that have been saved on Pinterest of Wonder Woman.
